The Heights is the perfect location for a nature break, set on the Island with a bird observatory at the Bill, you have a perfect location.  Chesil Beach Centre is close by as are Radipole and Lodmoor RSPB recerves.


Walking Breaks

Take a walking break anytime. The Isle of Portland is a great start point for walks round the Island or along the World Heritage Coast. You can take the Jurassic coast explorer bus from Weymouth along the coast in either direction then enjoy the coastal walk back to Portland. When you book a walking break we offer you a free local OS map and bottled water per day, with a packed lunch option.

The Visitor Information Centre at the hotel has lots of local maps, walks and leaflets to help you plan your walking break.  Please e mail Mike on with any questions.


We can assist you in organising your watersports activities using local companies. Portland was the home of the 2012 Sailing Olympics an ideal place to learn to sail. Portland harbour is known for speed records for enthusiastic kite and windsurfers.  Paddleboard in the shallow harbour, or kayak into the Fleet lagoon.  All activities within 1.7miles of the hotel.

Climbing Break

Portland is a well established all year round climbing venue. The experienced can even try deep water soloing, which involves climbing cliff faces above very deep water. Portland is a climbing venue of national importance. Nowhere else in the country offers such extensive sports climbing for all climbing abilities. Portland has over 800 routes recorded along its coastal sea cliffs .
